Picture Day

The company we usually have come in for picture day is unfortunately no longer in the dance photography business, and there were no other companies that we could get on such short notice. As a result, we will not be doing a full picture day event this year, but instead will be having dancers come in during their regular classes with their costumes and all accessories to take a group photo for the yearbook. You are welcomed and encouraged to take your own individual costume pictures on your own or with your favorite photographer.

Hair:

Hair should be in a low, slicked-back bun parted in the center, and stage makeup for photos.  No donuts, and please use a hairnet to contain any loose hair in the bun. We realize this will be difficult to accomplish for some, especially multiple times a week if your dancer has multiple classes; however, this is necessary so that dancer will look their best in our recital yearbook photos, of which every family will receive a copy.

HAIR should be in a LOW BUN, CENTER PART. No Bun Donut. Use a regular rubber band and bobby pins, to make a flat, neat bun. Use a hairnet after creating the bun. Lots of extra strong control hair gel WILL BE NEEDED.

Makeup:

MAKEUP EXAMPLE.
  • Makeup should be dramatic, but with nude colors on eyes, dark black mascara and eyeliner. Even the little ones will need makeup for the stage.
  • Lipstick should be bright red E.L.F. Cosmetics Red Carpet, which is very inexpensive. You can use another brand of your choice, as long as it is the same shade. Pointe Class will use E.L.F. Blackberry.
Specific shoe and tight needs for recital and for picture day will be posted on your parent portal under Costumes. MAKE SURE YOU LOG INTO YOUR PORTAL AS IN CASE THERE IS ANYTHING YOU WILL NEED TO ORDER IN ORDER TO HAVE IT IN TIME!

Picture Schedule and Procedure

We will be taking group photos during the regular class times during the week.

  • We will be taking these quick group phots during the week, in the first part of their class times.
  • We will be helping them change into their costumes and accessories as needed. Please send them in their first class’s costume and proper shoes and accessories including full makeup and hair, and make sure they have all their costumes and accessories for the day. ALL costume pieces should be labeled with your dancer’s name and be in a garment bag along with all accessory pieces.
  • They will also need to have regular dancewear and shoes as we will be holding regular class as well. Ballet 3-4 and Combo 4-6 classes will not be changing out of their costumes, so they may arrive with their costume on and will not need any additional dancewear.
  • Remember to ALWAYS have cover-ups (robes/jackets/large cardigan or button-up shirt, etc.) for dance costumes and do not allow any eating or drinking of anything except clear water while in costume.

Costumes

The rest fo your costumes will be delivered over the next two weeks. Advanced Ballet class parent portal has instructions for what to purchase or put to gather for your recital costume. DO NOT WAIT FOR YOUR COSTUME TO BE DELIVERED TO ORDER THE NECESSARY SHOES/TIGHTS FOR EACH CLASS!!

PINK TIGHTS/DANCE PAWS/BALLET shoes can be ordered through our website today/tomorrow and we will place a studio order on Wednesday.  All other shoes need to be purchased/ordered on your own ASAP.

Once you get them home, it’s important to hang them up, inside a garment bag, and make sure ALL the accessories are labeled WITH YOUR DANCER’S NAME and together with its costume.

Costume Care

Since the costumes come tightly packaged, they will be wrinkled and may need steaming to help remove the wrinkles and help get them recital-ready. If you don’t own a steamer, you can hang the costume in a steamy bathroom for a while to get the wrinkles out.

Once costumes are home, make sure they are put away somewhere that they won’t risk being damaged or lost, and are out of the reach of little fingers that might want to play with it. They should be in a breathable garment bag, which can be purchased on Amazon or Walmart or in most other popular retailers. Make sure any alterations are taken care of now, so that they will be ready for picture day and for our recital.
